About Me.
Hello, my name is Abrianna! I am a fifth-grade teacher. Reading and writing are true passions of mine and I strive to encourage all my students to share an interest in reading and language arts because I believe English is the building blocks for all subjects and creative thinking. My students can tell you all about my obsession with Harry Potter, which I use to make my classroom a fun, engaging and creative environment for learning. My love for education extends beyond my classroom and into my personal life as I continue to be a student myself.
My husband and I have three children and are very active our local community with our non-profit, small business and involvement with youth sport programs. In our spare time we enjoy traveling with our children, movie nights, hosting fires for s’mores at our house and game nights. Outside of the classroom I am most in my element when I am working with our non-profit, baking with my daughter, writing with my oldest, helping my middle son keep his football stats or discussing his real-world connections to things he has learned, painting in my studio or during Harry Potter marathons with my husband.

Education
Current- Beginning Spring 2023
PhD Curriculum and Instruction
Kansas State University
After working through the pandemic and seeing the affects virtual learning has had on academic, social and emotional behaviors and learning, I wanted to learn more on how to bridge and ultimately close that gap through curriculum design and teaching. During my PhD coursework I will also be taking classes to become a reading specialist as my dissertation focus will be on reading intervention strategies and how to get student back to wanting to read. Stay tuned to follow my journey and read my journal articles alongside my classroom blogs.
2020-2022
Masters- Elementary Education
Grand Canyon University
After getting established as a teacher I moved on to my Master's this time focusing on Elementary Education. I continued to build my knowledge base in literacy best practices. Additionally, I focused on classroom management, lesson planning, small group instruction and guiding students to be independent learners. Through this continued learning I found that student/teacher relationships are extremely important, students need to understand what is being asked of them, and learning can be demonstrated in multiple ways without adding additional prep/work to the educator.
2016-2018
Bachelors- English
University WI- Parkside
I started my undergrad in Elementary Education, working as an educational aid in Special education. During my elementary clinical placement, I saw first-hand the severe gap in literacy that plagues the country, this pushed me to switch to an English major. My English major helped provide me with the "whys" for English theory and the English Language. I use this knowledge to base my modifications and instruction on to help my students close their own academic gaps in literacy.
My Purpose
Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Abrianna, and I am an elementary school teacher, currently teaching fifth grade and going to school for my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. My primary goal is to show my students they are capable of anything they put their mind to regardless of their current ability. I do this through being the best teacher I can be for them and through continuing to learn and research more ways to meet their needs. Education is an ever-evolving profession and while the foundation may be the same year after year, an educator will never teach the same type of student twice. My passion to be the best teacher I can be for my own students has inspired me to help other educators who feel overwhelmed, are having a hard time seeing the "why" for admin requests, working with a new curriculum and struggle with making it work in their room, etc. I want you to know you are heard, you are seen, and you are appreciated, even though it might not feel like it at times. I hope this website and information help you like they help me.
Thank you for stopping by, I hope to see you again!
